The term Post-Impressionism was coined by the English art critic Roger Fry in exhibition Manet and Post-Impressionism in 1910. This represents the development of French art since Manet. A description of the work Van Gogh's own title for this composition was simply The Bedroom there are three authentic versions described in his letters, easily discernible from one another by the pictures on the wall to the right. The painting depicts Van Gogh's bedroom, known as his Yellow House. The window in the front wall was looking to Place Lamartine and its public gardens. one key quote about the work in question This room was not rectangular, but trapezoid, with an obtuse angle in the left hand corner of the front wall and an acute angle at the right.[1] Van Gogh evidently did not spend much time on this problem, he simply indicated that there was a corner.why this work interests you/ your own opinion of the work I think that he is a very dramatic artist and he really can express he own personal feelings in his works. In this paintings, the subject-matter is simple and it looks like not much room for him to develop. But he did show his personality. Besides, This room was not rectangular, but trapezoid. This gives me a very strong first impression. names of authors, titles of articles, books or websites (and publication information) that are especially relevant to this work a thought-provoking question about the work for the class -why the room is not rectangular, but trapezoid. |

Hi Tabitha,
ReplyDeleteI think you need to analysis in detail each formal qualities of the work, like the use of color and tone, composition, the usual perspective. You have put down these points at the beginning, try elaborate on them in detail and use reference to support. And relate these formal qualities to the mood of the work.Try to describe the relation between you feeling of the work and its visual elements.
